Damien Hirst's 'A Thousand Years', 1990

Damien Hirst's 'A Thousand Years', 1990 by Suzanna.
Yes, it moved when I took that photo and no, it didn't smell too bad.

Having said that, I saw Wim Delvoye's 'Cloaca' live a few years ago, so I guess I'm not someone you should trust when it comes to olfactory modern art. :)

Steel, glass, flies, maggots, insect-o-cutor, cow's head, sugar, water.

Photo taken at the Gagosian Gallery (exhibition from 20th June - 4th August 2006)

So... What is the message of the artist? Was there a text to go with this? *very curious* (seen on your stream, coming from Explore... ;))

You know what they say in the art world; 'If you want to get ahead get a head'. Quite.

i think hirst was making a play on life and death?

we did some discussion work about whether modern art such as hirst's or tracy emin's was real art, and we thought that the cows head represented life and death.

the picture is really effective by the way, very thought provoking, as you can see :)

... and I think it's distasteful to commit such cruelty to the English language. 5 spelling/apostrophe mistakes in one sentence (comma mistakes not counted)? Ouch...

I normally don't reply to people who edit their comments to turn them into something completely different, but just this: I'm vegan. This is just a photograph. Ceci n'est pas une vache. ;)

^^^ I didn't edit or change my comment, and it's very nice you also
care for cows, as they should be protected.
I leave the topics of shade and exsposure to the folks that see that part of the photograph.

Ceci / meat ? n'est pas une vache / not a cow ? please translate.

I think you'll find it was a René Magritte reference.
