Nice !! .... i am trying to do exactly the same thing - did u install Ubuntu Studio ... or the standard distro??
wstryder 43 months ago | reply
Hi, I already had standard Ubuntu, so I just installed the Ubuntu studio packages on top of that, with "sudo apt-get install ubuntustudio-audio".

Nice. I would like to make a similar linux-studio too.
Unfortunately most of the audio hardware is not linux supported.

That's true antid0tcom. Although I think the biggest problem is software - all the really cool stuff is for mac or windows. Generic midi controllers should work AFAIK.
Good thing my trusty old guitar is supported :)

I would probably do a lot more on the Ubuntu box I have in the room with my gear though it's not working over 640 x 480 resolution on my 32" HDTV via rgb hookup despite every fix I have tried. Will add the studio packages you mentioned to my laptop though, as it's running a VirtualBox install with full resolution fine. Thank you! I see so many awesome JACK-related apps but I still have not tooled around enough with JACK to make use of them. A tiny MIDI device on the desk and ZynAddSubFX running and you'd have a full musical Ubuntu array going on, or a MIDI pickup on the guitar.
