Nooksack River Bridge: Installing connection plates and tightening bolts

As part of the SR 539 widening project, crews are building a new steel truss bridge over the Nooksack River.

The construction has garnered some statewide interest because the last steel through-truss bridge built on a state highway was in 1986 on SR 12 over the Snake River east of Pasco.

A camera near the construction site allows people statewide to look in on the construction: www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/bellingham/SR53 9_RiverRd.htm

Crews began constructing the span in May 2009.
