On Oct. 11, 2009 a landslide buried Washington state route 410 and dammed the Naches River in the Nile Valley, east of Mount Rainier and west of Yakima, in the Cascade Mountains.

“The hillside simply came down and landed on SR 410. Close to half a mile of highway was demolished and that area is now covered with 25 to 30 feet of rock and other debris,” said Don Whitehouse, WSDOT’s Yakima-area Regional Administrator.
