Looking south at the SR 99 construction bypass that will open Oct. 31, 2011. The new southbound off-ramp to South Atlantic street is on the bottom right of the image.
The concrete columns between the southbound lanes of the bypass and the new South Atlantic Street off-ramp will be part of a new overpass that will cross above SR 99 and the BNSF railroad tracks. The tall pipe piles between the southbound and northbound lanes will support construction of the overpass. Construction on the overpass will start in summer 2012. Installing the piles and columns before the bypass opens drastically reduces the number of closures required to build the overpass.
