SR 104 Hood Canal Bridge lift span lowers

The lift spans on the Hood Canal Bridge are moved by powerful hydraulic cylinders that raise the steel roadway about six feet. This movement allows draw span pontoons to retract beneath the raised roadway, creating an open channel for marine vessels. As it lowers (above) it becomes a usable roadway for vehicles.
