Perseid Meteor (crop)
ISO - 400

My weirdest photo experience yet! Point your camera at the night sky,
click and hope.
17th attempt, I hit the jackpot. That trail you can see along the
bottom of the shot, is a Perseid meteor. This time every year, their is
a heavenly shower of comet debris.
These particles are no bigger than grains of sand, and burn up as they
enter the Earth's atmosphere at 50km.
The bigger you see this shot, the more lurid green the end of the
trail appears. This is a crop of the earlier shot I've now added for a
clearer view of the fantastic green tail.

Excellent work! You've captured the green-to-red shift really well--a perfect display of the composition of these little guys burning off.

Very great capture, I wasn't up to staying awake until 3:00am. What time was this taken at?
Thank you for sharing, #11 in Explore, fantastic! Well done.

I don't wanna upset you flickrzak, but it was taken at 12 .10 am. I thought about trying again at 3.00 am, but thought I'd really be pushing my luck.
The skies were clear at midnight, this is England, so they were unlikely to still be clear by 3: 00 am!
Cheers for stopping by : )

Great shot! Yeah, you need patience & a little luck to catch these on film. I was out watching them the other night before the clouds rolled in & your photo confirms what I say. Namely a green streak (which can be seen on the right hand part of the trail) that lasted longer on the eye than the white trails. Do you do other astophotography work or was this a one off event for you? Either way, well done!

Thanks for your comment blighty63.
This was a complete one off, though I am encouraged by the results. I know there is always a meteor shower about November time, I have watched it since my teenage years. So, I will have a crack at that, clouds permitting.
By the way, it was really bright to the naked eye.
Love your buddy icon.

Very cool!
I was beyond disappointed. We had so much smoke from the fires, that I couldn't even SEE the sky. :(
Rongem Boyo 71 months ago | reply
That's terrible about the fires, hope this helped cheer you up a bit : )
Thanks for your comment.

This is amazing! I guess it must have been really difficult and 17 attempts is not really that much. ;)
Rongem Boyo 71 months ago | reply
Yeah, if you look at the stories above, I was really very lucky!

Great shot! Had any luck this year? I've been clouded out. But I used your photo as an illustration for a blog post:
