Climate Control Comfort

Climate Control Comfort

I've never been skiing but if I do, I'll be sure to do it at a place that has these cool ski lift cars, like Stratton Mountain.

Is that the right term for them?

Springtime Serenity

Springtime Serenity

We finally got our first real snow here in Southern Vermont. I was going to go shoot the Weston mill in the snow, but I thought the light wasn't quite right. I'm saving it for another day.

So - now for something completely different. A heretofore unposted archive shot of a seasonal waterfall at Letchworth State Park in Castile, NY. Since our move to Vermont, it might be a long time before I get back to good old Letchworth again.

So enjoy this shot of Springtime serenity!!

Lye Brook Falls January Closeup

Lye Brook Falls January Closeup

Another shot from Lye Brook Falls. As I was just packing up to leave, I got a call from our realtor telling us that the open house on Sunday went well.

After I hung up, the clouds cleared and the sun came out. I thought it only fitting after a 2.3 mile hike (and before the same return trip) that I should get a few more "blue sky waterfall" shots.

PS - no bites on the house yet, but people seem interested.

Landslide! On the Lye Brook Falls Trail

Landslide! On the Lye Brook Falls Trail

Just about 2/10 mile before the falls, I came across this huge landslide area. I don't think that's a real falls at the top, just some frozen water.

To give you some perspective, it was probably about 200 feet from where I took this shot to the top of the scene. Directly behind me was about 2-300 feet down to the valley level, same scenery - dirt, rocks and roots. There must have been some raging water during hurricane Irene in August 2010 to carve this out of the mountain.

Lye Brook Falls Winter Panorama

Lye Brook Falls Winter Panorama

Subtitle: "Look, Joe finally did a Falls Panorama!".

Lye Brook Falls is an amazing sight, and a sight for sore eyes (and feet) after a 2.3 mile hike, mostly uphill to get to this point. The weather cooperated, and the lack of snow in VT this year helped out, I can't imagine there are too many January photos of this falls!

I have some more I hope to post, including a very cool landslide shot just .2 mile or so before the falls.

If you found this shot in a google or flickr search, be aware that the winter of 2011-2012 has been very, very dry and warm so far. I would not try to make this hike if there were any amount of snow on the trail.
