Never, never, never take your eye from the camera when a woman is in the light. Never. If you do, you lose...

We wanted to change the light, so I said, "let's hold up a minute..." She looked down and pulled the bikini... one shot and it was gone. If I had taken my eye away I would have missed this totally spontaneous shot with so much going on. It is at once sensual, playful, whimsical and sexy... and all because it is NOT posed or contrived... a real woman doing real woman things...

Anyway... one shot is all I got cause she looked up and it was gone.

Grid spot at f9 on her. Two small white umbrellas on the background each side giving me f14. This is a very bright white and gives me a little 'wrap' of light on the edges and in the hair. I love it in this shot.

Photoshop includes very small amount of skin repair... just a little shine on the forehead, some luminance masking for brightness and that's it.

Lenny, that is because (I assume) he had the gridspot very close to her face, so the light fall-off is faster. I am assuming that having the gridspt closer to her makes the light source bigger in respect to her face, and smaller across the body compared to the face.

With her head down, the light is catching the face and the makeup a bit differently than it is catching her body. I also admit to doing the post on a laptop in a wildly chaotic atmosphere. Sometimes to get the face where we want it, the makeup can be a little light... It has more to do with the woman's tan than the makeup. The tan photographs a bit darker than the colors on the face... add to that the oil for glistening and you have a different pallet for the light... flat versus 'glossy'.

Usually I adjust in post, but the laptop is a little more forgiving than the usual machines I work on and I did not see the discrepancy until I got in front of my big machines.

It is definitely something to be aware of. Matte face and shiny body under a grid spot... Interesting, no?

Yeah, laptops usually have worse contrast.
