WIPO Director General Francis Gurry joined on July 8, 2013 a panel of leading academic experts, policy makers and innovators at a discussion in New York City of the results of the Global Innovation Index 2013. Mr. Gurry spoke about the importance of innovation as a tool for economic development, and the critical role played by intellectual property (IP) in enabling innovation.
Panelists were Acting Under Secretary of Commerce for IP and Acting Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office Teresa Stanek Rea (center), Dean and Vice Provost Cornell NYC Tech Dan Huttenlocher (left), Cornell University President David J. Skorton, Dean Johnson Graduate School of Management Cornell University Soumitra Dutta, Corporation for National Research Initiatives and Internet pioneer Robert Kahn, and Booz & Company Senior Partner Barry Jaruzelski.
