At the invitation of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), WIPO Director General Francis Gurry participated in the 44th Session of the Meetings of ASEAN Economic Ministers in Siem Reap, Cambodia, on August 28, 2012.
The meeting discussed the importance of intellectual property (IP) for fostering innovation and economic development, WIPO's role in the implementation of the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2011-2015, and the need for specific assistance programs for Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV) in the field of IP.
