At the invitation of George Washington University Law School (Washington, DC), on November 21, 2013, WIPO Director General Francis Gurry addressed leading American intellectual property (IP) practitioners, as well as university students, faculty and diplomats. The event was hosted by Professor Bob Brauneis. In a speech entitled, Intellectual Property and the International Economy, Mr. Gurry spoke about the economic changes arising from the commodification of IP. He provided an overview of the evolution of IP and how WIPO’s work program identifies policy responses to the evolving IP landscape.
