Choral Society - 1930s

Look at the Notes and thanks to Eric Brassington for identification.

I speculate that this image is of Winster Choral Society at the Loughborough Musical Festival in 1936. Click on this link to see the source of my speculation.

Many of the people in the image in the link are pictured in this image too,

For the photograph enthusiasts this image is mounted on a card measuring 12'' x 10'' - the image itself measuring 8'' x 6'' approx. This back part of the mount is overlaid by a grey coloured card through which the image is visible and around which is a darker grey coloured irregular border which is about a quarter of an inch from each side of the image. The back of the mount has a printed white label pasted to the back which states:

"Further copies of the Photo may be obtained from

G.H. GILL photographer

Matlock Bath

Large mounted 1/9 each

Large unmounted 1/3 "

Postcards 5/- per dozen

This photo is copyright."

In addition there is a red oval stamp on the back of the mount which states "Copyright Photo by G.H. GILL MATLOCK BATH."

Thus the mount just described cost the purchaser 1/9 about 74 years ago.

"Why not display part of the mount?," I imagine you murmuring, "to save this complicated written description." Answer - "Because I want you to enjoy the clarity of this image which is sharper than one showing all or part of the mount."
