I have no idea what this is about, but I like it.

and so it begins ...
I'm about to start a D&D 4E campaign for my son and some of his friends. This is the set up I have.
I'm starting them out with the first Dungeon Delve (which I've placed a morning's journey outside of Fallcrest), but instead of setting it in an excavation, I'm putting the dungeon down in the ruins of an old Dwarven tower, so I can use this set of dungeon tiles that I really like.
Once they make it through the delve, they'll be encouraged to head up Kings Road to Winterhaven, where strange things are afoot...

just the essentials
Dice, Core Rules, and Pizza. The only thing missing is the Mountain Dew that I can't drink anymore.

This is how I go to my happy place.
I've lost my original D&D Basic set, but this is a first printing that I bought at a game store about ten years ago.
The Keep on the Borderlands module belonged to someone named Randy Richards, who wrote his name and phone number (as we so often did in those days) on the cover.
Yesterday, I read this Player's Book for the first time in over 20 years, and even played the solo adventure within. The Rust Monster is still as hard to beat as I remember, but my fighter (Thorin, a name I used all the time when I was a kid thanks to The Hobbit) managed to defeat it with some creative trips back to town to replace his armor and weapons, just like when I was a kid.
I'm going to read the Dungeon Master's Guide next, and then reread the Keep on the Borderlands after that. When I'm all done, I'm going to run B2 for some friends, using just the Basic rules I have here.
