iPhone Growl Style

iPhone Growl Style by wilsonminer.
I was getting annoyed that none of the built-in notification styles for Growl look quite right to me, so I started playing around with making my own. There's a new WebKit notification style format that makes it pretty easy to whip something up with a little CSS. There are some limitations, but it works pretty well. This one's the product of me mucking around on a Saturday morning, you can try it out if you like.

Nice...I'm going to give it a try. I've been using the Music Video look, but I may like this better.

I noticed the download of your iPhone style has rounded corners, but your screenshot doesn't -- any idea why?

Do you have Safari 3 installed? I might have left a border-radius in there, but I uninstalled Safari 3 because it was slowing everything down.

It sucks that you can't make the WebKit styles fill the screen, like Music Video does. Or at least I haven't figured out how.

Strange - I was just messing around with Growl on Saturday, trying to arrive at my favorite notification style. This looks good.

I assume it's the one with rounded corners?

Updated this one a bit to make it smaller and a little lighter. Tried pinning it to the edges of the screen, but that seems to interfere with the stacking of concurrent notifications, which I like.

Just as an aside, what do you guys use the notifications for? I have installed growl on three separate occasions but always seem to delete it after a few days. I don't think I have found the right combination of system notifications that I want displayed, it always ends up annoying me.

I use it for a lot of background stuff (e.g. Transmit uploads finishing, messages for me in IRC) that it's handy to know when to pay attention to. I like that I can just install Growl and as I use more apps that support it, more notifications start showing up - and I can turn certain ones off if they're not useful.

Wilson, thanks for the reply. I can definitely see how can it be useful I guess i just need to break through that barrier and incorporate it into a normal workflow (much like I had to do with Quicksilver).

Anyways, it looks great!

Modified it a little bit to version working properly with Safari 4.0. By “properly” I mean the thickness of text is weaker as it used to be in Safari 3. Also added two !important properties in font-size, so it won’t increase its size (I’ve noticed it happening in Dropbox’ notifications time to time).

Thicker font just doesn’t look so sexy.
