Paris, samedi 12 avril 2008.

[English]

Paris, Saturday April 12th 2008.

Protest in front of the ministry of Health, organized by the national collective against excess charges and for health care access for all.

Saturday April 12th, the sick were invited to bring their empty boxes of medicines in front of the ministry of Health in Paris, in protestation against the establishment since January 1st 2008 of an excess charge when buying each of those. These excess charges — which concern paramedical acts and sanitary travels too — touch every user of the health system ; except pregnant women, children and those covered by the State universal health coverage (CMU). So most chronically sick are concerned, with those under long term affection [a French health status that, theoricaly, grants 100% health insurance], and including those in the most precarious situations: like, for example, those having the disabled adult allocation which grants them a mere 628,10€ per month ; and more generally those living just above the CMU threshold (600€).

Here, a protester holding a placard from Act Up-Paris : "MEDICAL EXCESS CHARGES / NO TAX ON OUR LIVES ".

Ugh! It breaks my heart this is a battle the sick have to fight. America has done the world a disservice by providing such a greedy example of how to make an unfair profit from the sick, needy and in pain. Draw the lines and hold them. Thanks for sharing your images!

Incredible costume to be wearing for a protest...not something we Americans tend to see. Thanks for excellent write-up's accompanying each image.
