I like this flag design, except for the words, which of course violate heraldic / vexillological principles. The St. Andrew's Saltire in the canton is of course a reflection of the town's Scottish heritage, as is the thistle in the shield.

Interesting - a little busy, but I sort of like it, too. Except for the clutter of the arms in the fly. Given such a distinctive design, I don't know why they felt the need to add that.

True; it would have been quite complete without that. Or if they'd just had the escutcheon without the rest of the arms - and without the words, it'd still be only slightly busier than the Red Ensign / the Red Ensigns of Ontario and Manitoba / the flag of Rothesay, New Brunswick (one of my favourite muncipal flags).
