Dome-enclosed houses and a "How to Have Fun Outdoors" article in the same issue. I love it.

I didn't live in a house like this until 1990. Some prognosticators they are!

Hey, Will- I have a funkier copy of this on my site. Thanks for including the whole amazing article. I just joined up, so there's not much there yet, but we'll have to compare notes. I love the old Popular Mechanics & Mechanix Illustrated!

Hey, froggyboggler. Cool! I don't have too many old Popular Mechanics or Mechanix Illustrated (though I do like them), and I've already scanned and posted what I consider the most interesting stuff in them, along with stuff from other vintage magazines I own. Have a look around! :)

And welcome to Flickr! The most fun way to waste time; in no time, it may become an obsession! Consider yourself warned! ;)

Good!
That could save us from the Atomic wars of 1990!

Gigantic one piece glass domes are such a staple of Populuxe Futurism- yet I've never seen an article on "How We Will Build Huge Glass Domes !!!"

how about "How We Will Roast Alive in Giant Glass Domes "

I guess they figured we'd find a way to build them - and cool them.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Bubble City, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

Your copy is so much nicer than mine (with the big sticker on the cover)

Happy to submit it AND also join, FB!

I paid something like $5.00 for it, at a flea market in upstate NY, but it was worth it; it was still in good condition, and kept so in a perfectly-sized cellophane wrapper.

BTW, saw a pic of you on FS's photostream, from New Year's Eve! I recognized you immediately. :)

Thanks for joining, Will.

That was a worst photo (probably looks just like me..) and how many chins could you count there? Ugh! Caught in an illegal act in an unflattering pose with a giant feathered headpiece!

I didn't see anything illegal; I couldn't tell what you were doing with your hands, though.

That's okay; I can guess. ;) We take a lighter view of such things, up here.

I can only say it involved matches in the street but was not inhaled.

Thanks! You'll find quite a few of these neat old science mags in "Cover of a Magazine" group. I think the illustration for many of the covers was awesome.

You're welcome, and thanks for the invite! I agree, there were lots of imaginative and beautiful illustrations on covers in those times.
