One can't possibly understand how women survive wearing these things -- and to be forced to wear them by the Taliban! For me, seeing these burqa clad women had been on of the most poignant sights.

	Richard- says: Nice image Wendy. Of course each culture has its traditions that seem weird to others: the way westerners dress up looks pretty weird to me, and I'm a westerner. Whoever invented the tie should be tied up with ties. Not to belittle the impact of this image or of what full body covering represents, but there are various ways to look at it and I'm uncomfortable looking at it solely thorugh western eyes. 	detlova says: Your image says much more than first appears - she is sitting on the slab that covered the hole. What does the hole represent? Is it her dwelling, her existence, her prison? Are the males protecting or guarding her? Also, the large round rock beside her makes me shudder as I am reminded that in some cultures "stoning" to death of women at the hands of men is still condoned and practiced. It is difficult to view this picture and remain unaffected. Whatever the actual story may be, women continue to struggle for equality, in all cultures and traditions. Posted 27 months ago.
