A commemorative coin for the Girl Scouts sounds like an awesome idea. Politics aside, the Scouts have always been a great set of organizations for inspiring our Nation's youth.

RE: Carpet
LOL!
I think they were trying to be respectful of Laura Bush's choice of carpet design. I think the other reason, is that it may not have been at the top of the President Obama's priority list given the other pressing issues he's trying to address. I believe he may have even commented earlier this year that he was not in a hurry to change it. But I know that if and when he does decide to change it, there will be those who will make a fuss about it (unjustly I might add). Frankly, He should choose whatever carpet he wants. He's in office now and he is entitled to change it.

there is an ominous vibe to that carpet, despite the sunshine it's trying to depict. I think it should be changed ASAP! ; )

I think we have more important things to spend money on besides perfectly good carpeting. I'm sure it cost us a fortune in the first place. Hurrah for the Obamas, in my book.

The Oval Office carpet is changed every 3 years or so, due to heavy use. The present carpet was installed in 2006 I believe.

Course as former President, Bill Clinton, said back in January, at a meeting called by President Bush, of all the living President's, "I love this rug."

I think it's a saccharine carpet. A bolder carpet might inspire a more sincere energy.

was this 'supposed' to be a discussion of any sort at all?

And believe it or not, that carpet, and the interior decor of the entire White House, indirectly affects us all.

There are far more important things to contemplate and worry about in life all over the United States besides the carpeting in the Oval Office. Like homeless people, hungry children, battery and sexual abuse of women and children, joblessness etc. It's all how you put it into perspective, I guess.

I agree with you completely. The things you mention are indeed important; they deserve a more fitting platform than the comments on Flickr. But what about the seemingly less important things, like the First Carpet? Where can we safely discuss this matter?

The desk with its natural grainy design is well seen here. I wonder how many presidents occupied it. Interesting image...and Michelle listens intently.

Amen. Look at those people.
To me they are realy the First Family.
The First Couple.

They are model citizens, model partners,
model husband and wife
model man & model woman.

I do not look down on anybody
I do not look up to many
I do look up to Barack Obama and Michelle, his wife.

Kind regards, God bless all noble people of good will,
and the First Couple especially,

Did you say something about Obamacare inflating the costs of wheelchairs by increasing the taxes on medical devices?
