I don't think this is the "real" Air Force One (747 / VC-25). Seems too narrow. Must be one of the smaller support planes.

It is so a 747 did you guys not read the caption? "during the flight to Caen, France June 6, 2009" The went to France on a 747 can make it across the atlantic. also if you look at www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircr aft/vc-25-sc.... You can clearly see that there are small parts of the plane.

This is totally not a 747 it is way to narrow. Ive been in the airline biz for a long time (12 yrs) and this is way to narrow. If anything its a 757 that is the only plane narrow like that but with that much head room.

This is NOT a 747, this is what the 747 air force one looks like..

Edit
To debunk what others are saying, this is NOT the top deck of the 747 air force one. The top deck of the 747 does not have windows..

He was probably on board one of the smaller presidential aircraft, like this one..

747's have multiple decks. They're clearly on the top deck, which is narrower than the main deck. Unless you think that the exit right behind them leads to the outside rather than a staircase to the lower decks...

(edit)
Plus if you look at the global security link, they're clearly in the upper deck communications/rest area.

Yep - too narrow. Plus the caption states it is on the flight to Caen France. I don't think the Aeroport de Caen-Carpiquet is large enough to handle the C-25.

Also, the top deck of the C-25 doesn't have any windows and is used by flight crew and communications staff.

The upper deck theory doesn't make sense due to the curvature of the walls. If it were the upper deck of a larger plane, the walls wouldn't start curving back in towards the floor.

Yes it is the upper deck. The top deck of their 747, like all such 747 models, DOES curve in like that.

Luke Dukem that is further back in the plane. This is a 747 no question.

For those who think this is Air Force One are cracked. This is a 757, and no it is not the upper deck of Air Force One. The Exit sign are the two Emergency Exits over the wing

Here is a picture of the upper deck. hmm.....no windows channel.nationalgeographic.com/staticfiles/NG C/StaticFile...

Here is the upper deck layout, no walk though

No matter where in the world the President travels, if he flies in an Air Force jet, the plane is called Air Force One. Doesn't matter what type of Air Force plane it is.

Its the front section of the upper deck, it is the 747. The door leads to the communication room. I take it back, its the foyer area of the middeck, dirrectly over the wing.

sdgoss72 is spot-on. This is probably a 757, but is definitely *not* the normal 747 AF1. The upper deck on AF1 has no windows (technically, theres two on one side, and none on the other, but whatever.), and this picture shows windows on both sides. The upper deck is for the communications and flight crew-- the president wouldnt be hanging out up there.

My guess is he took the "normal" VC25 (747) air force one to paris, and then used the smaler C32A (757) for the short flight from Paris to Caen, since Caen's longest runway is not long enough for a 747 to land (its ~6000 feet while a 747 needs ~10,000). Nothing usual there, he did the same thing on his visit to mexico.

One more thing...

Note the white over blue paint scheme in this photo of the President and First Lady disembarking at Caen.

Then look at the above photo of the C-25 paint scheme - notice anything different???

Also note the distinct lack of windows in the upper deck.

That is definitely not a 747, it is not even a widebody aircraft. The upper deck of a 747 does not curve in at the bottom of the deck. It is definitely a Boeing based on the Exit sign font, maybe a 757.

The callsign of the military plane while the President is on board: Air Force One. So most of us understand this one.

Then question we are discussing: is this picture taken inside the VC-25 (Boeing 747 variant) or the C-32 / C-32A (Boeing 757 variants). We could ask the press at the airport near Caen on June 6th 2009, they'd tell you the FACTS...

"Les Obama descendent d’avion à Caen pour entrer dans un hélicoptère qui les amènent au plus près de la préfecture où les attendent les Sarkozy."

www.lefigaro.fr/medias/2009/06/06/20090606PHO WWW00091.jpg

(Basically they were "transferring" to the Marine One there onto the ceremonial site... www.citizenside.com/en/photos/conflicts-wars/ 2009-06-06/1... )

Besides the white dress which the First Lady Obama was wearing that particular day, pay attention to the fuselage and the surrounding windows, i.e. color, a light fixture in the painted window (above the President Obama's head and 2nd painted one to the left of those unpainted one) etc.

And these photos of a C-32 and C-32A...

www.flickr.com/photos/fabster-pics/3511131184 /sizes/o/in/...

Now, compares to these photos of a VC-25...

www.flickr.com/photos/clearskyphotography/220 047811/in/se...
www.flickr.com/photos/clearskyphotography/377 988476/in/se...

If you insist they were flying in a VC-25 from Paris to Caen on that day, then be my guest ;-) But I do know what a C-32 / C-32A looks like... at least from the outside.

All you morons who keep saying "it its the air force one!" "whatever plane the president is on is the air force one!" nobody said it wasn't the air force one, they just said it wasn't the 747 air force one. if you idiots read my post earlier you would know that this is not a 747 and you morons who say it is the upper deck well all of you are stupid. the walls curve in toward the the center again, it has windows, and is very narrow. therefore it is not a 747. go work at an airport for 12 years where you mainly deal with is Boeing's 737,747,757,767,and 777 all day and all nigh. I know what all look like inside and out. and to the people who say it is a 757 congratulations you know your stuff. You idiots need to learn your planes if your gonna comment something ridiculous again. If you have any more questions or would like to debate this with me you all know where to find me, but for warning I am always right.

HotpocketR0X,

I doubt that many would even know what the other callsign designations like Executive One exist. So like I have said, to those who insist this photo is inside a VC-25, be my guest rather than wasting our time to "discuss".

The thing is that some people like me who have not been in the aerospace industry or working at an airport for decades could still get the FACTS straight... first-hand experience / sharing in different forms from you, countless others in the field, enthusiasts.

Google, Wiki are good tools for average Joe's data mining - if and only if we have the patience and instinct to FILTER out the information from the misinformation.

He is on Air Force Two in the PHYSICAL sense, which is the plane that services the Vice President of the United States. People are right when they say the plane is too small to be a 747. Air Force One is a modified 747-200B which does not have the number of upper-deck windows that this picture has.

The 747-200B that is modified by Boeing for the Air Force (which Air Force One is a part of since it's considered a military plane because of the defensive counter-measures and the Commander in Chief being on board) only has two windows on the right side of the upper deck.

People who say the President wouldn't be up there; let's not go so far by saying that. He IS the president, lol. But anyway, while aboard any plane, that is not PHYSICALLY Air Force One, the call sign changes to Air Force One and the tail-code would be relayed to communications that the new tail-code would be taking over as Air Force One in the interim.

The new model that is supposed to replace the 747-200B is the 747-8I (Intercontinental) manufactured by Boeing, which Lufthansa is supposed to be Boeings first customer to use the new plane, or the Airbus A380 manufactured by Airbus which Qantas currently uses.

PerfectGentlemanBK,

OT: I doubt that the contract to build the next presidential fleet will go to EADS as it has already opted out, claiming it does not meet their business objectives, as to avoid the "buy American" sentiment on the Hill like in the air-tanker bid. So Boeing is essentially the only contender.

www.flugzeugbilder.de/search4.cgi?stype=actyp e&srng=2...

it shows the plane he was flying for that day and it isthe the 757-200 known as a C-32A when the president flies both VC-25 fly with him as also any other support planes needed i guess since they where going to use a short runway they took the C-32A on the mission also. So my guess is VC-25 (747) from the US to France then from Orly to Caen the C-32A and from Caen airport to the location Marine One VH-3D there we go on the whole confusion in the pictures.
