As for pining 8 long years for leadership, the Obamas lead in a way the Clintons never did - with emotional/social intelligence to match their academic brilliance. We haven't had this level of leadership in my lifetime (and I was born before Carter took office). I'm a strong liberal, love for Carter and Clinton, but the Obamas are a whole other level. Even my cynic husband feels hope with this family leading our country in various ways, including as First Role Models. We are working to have a marital relationship that is as loving and beautiful to see as the Obamas, ours has fallen a bit flat over the decade & with the stress of kids, but the Obamas show us how it can be. It's worth the work.

I love the expression of the two first ladies.

One nitpicking thing, for being a palace and an official world leaders reception place you would think that (the French being ritzy, arrogant and all) they would keep the furniture and the wall in top condition.
You can see the paint in the background is peeling on the left side of the photo (just behind Michelle).
The Brits would have a fair day knowing this!

So I agree with you about this wall but Strasbourg is not Paris, the Rohan Palace was a casual place for a meeting beside the Summit of the NATO STRASBOURG-KEHL on 2009 .
The french state money goes first to palaces like Versailles or l'Elysée, real official reception places.
