This is a wonderful portrait. Norman Rickwellish. I never heard of LOVING DAY so will read more about it.

The journey is not always an easy one but, for me, its always been the love that I have for the other person that makes it so easy for me to move forward. Against many odds.

Best of luck to you both. And HAPPY LOVING DAY!

I had no idea how the US law had finally authorized people to get married whatever their origins... Awesome love story, people's history, and picture.
Thanks for enhancing my culture of North America and sharing this with us... You're a lovely couple :-)

Thanks for posting the tag - I gotta say, yours is one of the better "American Gothic" replicas there - mostly because you've managed to get a real rake!

(Wait a minute, is that a rake ... or is that ... trick photography?)

Thanks for sharing this. I had never read their story before, nor thought much about this--not having realized it was ever even considered illegal after the Civil War!

I so admire these quiet, average people who through thought and then, action, become heros that change the world.

I saw this on the flickr blog -- I had no idea that there had actually been a law against loving someone of a different skin color in marriage. I love this photo and I'm blogging it here: universalflo , I hope that's okay with you, just let me know if it's not.

Sweet picture and story, but it's horrible that it took that long to change such a stupid law. What current laws will we look back on fifty years from now and have that same thought?

I love this picture. My cinnamon bride and I tried to do an American Gothic pose next to the actual painting. Yours is written the poetry and humor. I like it much better, even than the painting.
