Plain old Drupal block.

A Drupal view block.

Each entry here is managed as a "content box" - a custom content type.

The Related Programs block is generated as a view block of programs using taxonomy tags (e.g. News, Kids, etc.) tied to the parent series.

Did I mention that each of these blocks has a global default, or can be overridden at both the series and episode levels? Complicated stuff is fun - to a point.
