I think all that sand ingestion was worth it
-- one of the things I love about your
photography is the selective focus and the
textures in the sand. It really gives a
sense of the environment but keeps that
intimate focus on the birds. Fabulous, as
always!
I think this bird image is really excellent.

Another very nice group of photos...something
a little different in the life of the birds
that you have witnessed and shared with us.
As usual, your bird shots are terrific!

The wind along the northern CA shore can be
difficult. Up here it starts up about 11 am
and dies down just before sunset and streams
steadily at about 10-15 mph. I can well
imagine that these little birds have had to
learn strategies to cope. As usual,
excellent photograph - going on to look at
the other shots.

It is amazing how birds are able to manage in
their sometimes cruel habitat. This is an
awesome shot and well worth the sacrifice of
a free grains of sand ;-).

They do look hunkered down a bit. Probably
enjoying the warm air before they migrate
this direction and have to deal with the
cold. I saw some very surprised migrants
today in our new snow.
