Common moorhen

I saw these birds a lot in the treatment ponds of the Ellis Creek Water Recycling Facility in Petaluma, but it was really only this one occasion that I was able to capture one out in the open before it slipped back into the reeds.

Two shoveler drakes

Northern shovelers are my favorite duck species to watch and photograph, and Radio Road Ponds in Redwood City is a great place to get close to them. This shot is from a rainy afternoon there last march.
