Handaxes can vary wildly in size, this one is 15 to 16 cm long. Each axe is unique but can be recognised as a style produced at a particular time. They are fashioned from the centre of a flint nodule by removing flakes from around it.

This looks like a preform that got botched.
Who would leave a lump of cortex on there like that?
Maybe that concavity on the lower left side got too far from the midline to be salvaged.
