fortress ruins, Khulm

fortress ruins, Khulm by Wendy Tanner.
This small town, also known as Tashkurghan, is in the far north of Afghanistan, about halfway between Kunduz and Mazar-i-sharif, only a few miles from the Russian border. These ruins are 300 - 400 years old. All the buildings in and around the town were the same colour as the parched land, as if they were in a state of either arising from the land or crumbling back to it.

I love the colours. Great composition! Another great shot from Afghanistan in 1974.

Thanks, it was a pretty amazing landscape. I just feel so sad about what has happened to this country and its people. Many of the buildings would have been destroyed, I guess, and the people spread all over the world, if they weren't killed in one of the waves of war and fighting!!
