A Aurora Boreal é um fenómeno muito distinto do Sol da Meia-noite, embora ambos estes espectaculares fenómenos naturais sejam visíveis apenas nos céus do Norte. Na Lapónia, a Aurora Boreal ocorre 200 dias por ano, embora não seja sempre visível e nunca o seja durante a época do Sol de Meia-noite (no Verão).
