Everyday I witness an accident - a death on no matter which highway I take. This has got to be best report from Gulf News with pictorial evidences of how much the Emirate needs support of the commuters to take the responsiblity and help reduce deaths of victims. I urge the motorist in the emirates to please help themselves and others by driving safely and observing all the rules. With the weather changes, know that you will need to leave early to get to whereever you want go - and maintain safe distance/speed.

Scary enough, evertime i witness an accident, makes me wonder if I would be next. - efatima

"According to Eng Maitha Bin Adai, executive director of the Roads and Traffic Agency at the RTA, “the main reason for these dreadful accidents is due to lack of judgment by the drivers to the changes in weather. “Accidents have increased by 32 per cent during December compare to November, which witnessed 19 deaths,” she said. "

It is not just an Emirates problem. Over the Christmas period at least 100 people will lose their lives in traffic accidents in Ireland... Imagine at least 100 people will not be around next year.... due to alcohol and speeding related problems!

Most accident happen because the drivers are so stupid!. They drive too fast for the conditions, they are impatient and take risks overtaking - so many reasons, but they all think it will never happen to them.

I guess every country has people who drive carelessly. Some people don't seem to be able to see the potential problems. For instance, I drive country roads most of my commute to work, but there is almost always someone who is in a hurry and drives too close to my back bumper. They act as if there is nothing that would make me slam on my brakes - no one will pull out of a sideroad or their driveway without looking; no deer will suddenly run across the road; no oncoming car will swerve into my lane, or make a left-hand turn in front of me. Some people just don't anticipate.

It's bad when entire populations get too aggressive and wrapped up in there daily drive routines. To the point when the routine is altered a bit (like weather) they try to keep the same pace they are used to and EXPECT. People are very hard to talk "down" from these expectations of getting somewhere on THEIR schedule. Habits they DO empathize with those around but do not apply to their own driving. The same is here and many places I suspect. It bothers ME because of the now horrific and grizzly memories I now have thanks to those aggressive habits. I'm not shy from describing decapitations and bloody brained messes here IF I think it will illicit more individual accountabilty to ones behavior on the road. And less obstinance and indifference from certain drivers. Which is a bit accusatory but I believe is the real the issue on the road with too many. Usually the top 10-20% of very bad mannered folk behind the wheel that cause 70-80% of theses "accidents". Being an aggressive lane jockey isn't an accident.

I'm glad you posted this...this is a major problem everywhere in the world. Since moving to California (the states), I've had to adjust my awareness while on the road because there are MILLIONS of people packed into certain small areas....all driving like there's no tomorrow. I'm always shocked at how many times I see cars flipped upside down, crashed into guardrails, etc etc. Then there's all those times I came THIS CLOSE (holds up 2 fingers 1/2 inch apart) to losing my life to some idiot who's not paying attention....ugh!

Ironically RTA in the ER means: Road Traffic Accident!

It's the responsiblity of the companies that exhuast their workers/drivers asking them to drive for longer hours and be on time (with all the problems of traffic going on). I doubt that heavy vehicle drivers understand that driving 120km/hour give them a potentially forceful inertia that makes the way they drive homocidal.

as ironic as it is... yea Almaz, it did cross my mind as ER is one of my fav shows. I couldnt agree more with you on the strain the drivers are put under - again, like i said in my message - if only we all took our responsibility - as individuals as corporate - lives could be spared.
