I like it, great looking photo, but i dont know why it doesnt feel complete. Maybe its because of the DOF.

Maybe its the haze. When viewed large not much is in focus and the upper right side lacks detail.

Lacks impact and detail. First prize would have been to shoot this on a cler day. Unfortunately at the moment it's interesting, but not outstanding.

Fraid it falls just short of the grade. The DOF is off.

In an unrelated item, we just has the first snow of the year here. grrrrrrrr...

The Greatwall? "...lacks impact" is misleading. Detail comment I get and would concur. Did you use a tripod on this? Looks slightly shakey? Maybe you will have another opportunity?

Composition is okay, but it's a colourless, uninspiring day, as reflected in this shot.

Disagree on DOF - it's fine for me. I like the fact that it's colourless and I like the fact that the wall melts into the background. However, when viewing large it looks a bit shakey in the foreground. Shame, because I like this one.

I would like a little more contrast. I think the serious set back is the shakeyness that previously has been stated.

when you say the depth of field os "off", in what way? I wonder if some even understand dof for a landscape since, according to your profile, you don't even have a camera that let's you control dof!

Yes, this was handheld - no tripod, but I didn't notice the "shakyness" that you talked about. I wonder if it's from scanning with a bad scanner or it it's really in the shot? hmmm

I have hundreds of photos of the Great Wall on clear days, I purposefully didn't post those because they are a dime a dozen and a bit cliche. The point is that it's NOT the standard Great Wall in the springtime shot! Oh well, everyone has their own tastes!

Thanks for the critique, I enjoy it!!

I like the composition .. I like the snow on the wall, otherwise it was just another chinese wall shot .. You need to fix the contrast a tad, as well as the saturation .. could become a safe I reckon ..

Rotate one degree clockwise, adjust levels, perhaps tune saturation and sharpen selectively.

Now it is up to you to applaud others in the group, after all that is the main purpose of the group, it is better to give than to receive here. So would you please now go to the last page or two and comment on at least five pictures.
As a side benefit to improving your encouraging skills your picture will therefore sooner get its own applauding comments.
Thank you.

Nice to meet you.

Here is my take on it. I think it follows that "golden rule" of third and third both vertically and horizontally, than takes you out of that composition and into the “triangle” composition [that’s what I have heard it called] the remaining two thirds of the picture - on that journey out of the frame. It takes my eye across the entire frame, and off into the distance, where the focus becomes less detailed due to the weather. Tone, color, and all that. Well, it is up to you. I think it has a nice clarity and winter feel to it. Just my opinion, as I am a novice at this stuff. Heck, look at my pics and that is obvious.

Conclusion: Sweet Picture!

I like the perspective, it brings home the difficult terrain, the steepness - and it teases me, I want to walk a few meters to see what the view is like from there.

It's not a picture of 'traditional beauty' maybe - the proportions are unusual, and there is really only one point the eye can rest on (the watchtower) - but to me, that adds to the interest.
