A beautiful view of a storm approaching from a beach on Phi Phi Island, Thailand.

My wife and I went on vacation with some good friends and we had a blast at Phi Phi Island. The snorkeling and swimming was fantastic and the views were breathtaking.

One late afternoon a storm was blowing in and I took several photos with my Sony P&S camera. This one was my favorite.

(This was 6 months before the tragic tsunami that hit this island.)

Beautiful photo! The dark sky really enhances the beautiful turquoise of the water. Everything is crisp. Fantastic.

signatures detract from your image.

I want to look at the lovely scene not your schmancy signature.

Many pros who actually make money on their photos use a signature - I'm not even pretending to be a pro. However, I am putting large sized versions of my photos on the web. I know it's easy to PS the sig out, but it just proves guilt if they steal your photo and remove the signature.

I guess I could make mine smaller and more boring.

I'll have to think on that one.

you're certainly allowed to protect your images however you feel necessary but signatures (and borders) are wildly unpopular in the deleteme pool...just a heads up!

I prefer the bolder contrast, but I know again that is preference. Had the photo been focused more on the boat I think the flatter colors and contrast would have worked to get the faded and worn character of it. In this picture though, I feel the landscape is more prominent which I feel works better with stronger colors and contrast.

As jayjuice saya, it is somehow peacefull, despite whats on the horizon. The light foreground to the dark backdrop works well here.

Everything is perfectly focused and the composition if really nice.
The dark clouds at the horizon suggest a storm coming up, but still you can feel relaxed looking at the calm green water.
Good shot!

Excellent composition and nice soft colors.
It's tragic and humbling that the same force that can create such beauty can also bring such destruction.

Beautiful detail in the large size.
I would put this on my living room wall.

If you do print this large size you might want to filter out some of the sky color noise (this is not a complaint but a suggestion to enhance a beautiful picture).

i love it, to nitpick i think that it would be better without the branch top left. as everything else in the shot pulls us out to sea and the branch reminds us of the shore

i love the colors and the storm line here. unfortunately the branches on the left are distracting. maybe a square crop to lose the branches would be awesome!

I like this shot, Steve. I know exactly where you were standing for this shot (or at least within a few meters ;). It's a lovely spot with many lovely people. Though I spend a great deal of time in Thailand, I've not been to Phi Phi Don since the tragic tsunami and I still worry about people whom I hope to be well there.

(I know this is a rather belated comment on your photo. I missed this one before, and have not had enough time to visit flickr much in recent months. Hope all is well.)
