Septebmer 2011 - Sunrise at Black Lake.

Taken this past fall near Kebler Pass, CO.

This is a 3 x 1 crop of a massive panorama I took of the Indian Peaks from Twin Sisters. The clouds and sky over the peaks were pretty spectacular. The full panorama is a 33 mega pixel 5 x 1 aspect ratio, that Flickr could not do justice for...so you get the 3 x 1, 18 mega pixel version that will still be a struggle for Flickr but I wanted to share anyway.

Wouldn't you just love to walk that ridge in front of the peaks? Perhaps this summer...

I’ve seen this crazy color in the sky several times over the past winters, always while watching the sunrise out the window from my house. I always thought it would be great if I could get up high one morning and have it happen. Well, this morning it did.

Erik Page and I headed up Twin Sisters near Estes Park this morning for sunrise. It was actually a bit ironic, as we were both complaining about how we’ve had such poor sunrise luck in 2011. We spent a while talking about starting to do more sunsets, shooting more into the sun, etc. Perhaps Mother Nature overheard us this morning, because she put on a fantastic show.

Certainly was a great start to 2012.

Since 2011 is officially over, it’s time to report some stats. I kept all my hikes in my Garmin software this past year. Out of curiosity I looked at the totals for last year. In total, I hiked 158 miles and ascended 46,123 ft in my travels throughout the year. It’s gonna be tough to beat that this year, but I’m going to try...
