Nauru - 083 - 1-08-08
Pinnacles of coral rock after the phosphate has been dug from between them
Nauru a little island way out in the middle of the Pacific. It is a total of 21 square km and 17 km around. it has a coastal strip 100 to 300m wide around the island and has been mined extensively in the while middle (the high lands) for phosphate. the place was so prosperous in the 70s that they flew to Melbourne to watch the magpies play Aussie rules. Now the country has nothing. Commentswazonthehill

Fascinating series of photos and a tragic history. I've thought about trying to visit Nauru for a long time. How did you happen to be there?
Google Earth images of Nauru are also highly interesting.
