I think I'm Falling in Love with Black and White again. Maybe because I'm playing with too much color tones in 2009, but this time I will go for a "Lighter" version of a Black and White editing, I'm not going to get a "Deep" solid black like what I've previously done before.

Timeless Fleeting Moment

I like doing black and white, for me there is classic feeling to it, timeless, it can evoke all kind of feelings, happy, sadness, sorrow and all kind of things because we doesn't get distracted buy the colors especially in portrait where sometimes colors can become a distracting element that took away our attention from the "Soul" of the person.

I've done quite a lot of black and white before, especially for my son, you can visit HERE for more. Unlike Black and White that I've done previous year, this time I like to experiment with less "Contrast", meaning without deeper black and white, I like to go something lighter, resemble of black and white that you have seen on the newspaper, something like that, a "lighter" black and white. I can go "deep", I can go "rich" in Black and White, but somehow a "lighter" version will work wonder.

Full Of Bokeh

The Bokeh at the background is lighting coming from a Christmas tree at the shopping mall. It is not a Photoshop Bokeh but a real one. Here is the tips for playing with the lighting to get a nice Bokeh. If you are photographing a person, like my wife and my son in the picture above, ask your subject to stand a bit further from the light, in this case, the Christmas tree.

The farther away your subject from the light source, the bigger the Bokeh and vice versa, the closer it to the light source, the smaller the Bokeh, as simple as that and remember to open your aperture wide enough. I use aperture f1.4 o get this effect.

Childhood Dream

My first picture in 1st January 2010. My son off course but I decided to let this new year began with a black and white picture. take it easy but the truth is editing Black and White picture is much more tougher than doing editing in colors. maybe to some people doing black and white is just a matter of turning color pictures into greyscale or desaturate it but for me, I choose "The Road Less Travel" for my Black and White work. take more time to edit but then again I'm not in a rush.

This 1st picture in January 2010 is dedicated to Sonia for giving me inspiration through her pictures especially monochromatic picture. Thank you for your words of encouragement, thank your for your support, thank your for your New Year Gift to me and thank you for being my no one customer in 2010 who purchase my PhotoshopTone eBook despite that you are Master at your own craft, I really felt humble with your support.
