xieyi-style Lotus with flowers

This is one of many lotus that are painted by Chinese brush artists. This one was done with Derwent Inktense pencils on 140# Canson watercolor paper, size 5 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches.

This was a lot harder to do in pencil than it would be with Chinese brushes.

This is my homework assignment for lesson 4 on Kate's on-line watercolor pencil class.

The lotus is a symbol of summer and fruitfulness. It represents purity and perfection. The flowers are normally either white or pink, and the leaves are dark bluish-green on top and light green underneath. The edges of the leaves start to turn brown almost as soon as they reach full size.
