Before there were hackers, there were phreakers. I got really into the research for this piece. Loved reading about the early days in the 60s-70s of these guys who were able to hack into the Bell Company and call anywhere in the world for free, among other things. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak were phone phreakers before they started up Apple.
