I like the graphism of your photo, but you'd have taken your pic in poor light conditions, for having used a 1/6 speed. The pic is a little out of focus, it misses sharpness and it's too bad because the subjets needs it.
If you had used a aperture from 5.6 up to 9, there would have been more sharpness on each leaf and your pic would have been much better.

I agree with the above. The green is so eye popping but it is a little out of focus. However I love the way it was framed...very niceley done and the lighting is great.

My first impression is that I want a party dress in exactly this color and style -- little knife-pleats that float out around me when I twirl. You've done a great job of framing this so that it does give a nice abstract quality to the leaves. They fan out in a pleasing way that draws the eye all the way around the frame.

Unfortunately, it seems that you used the wrong aperture for this -- there is quite a bit of shake when viewed up close. Did you have a tripod? This is an image that could benefit from some planning to ensure that you have the correct exposure and a way to limit the blur.

Still, a pretty plant and a nice image. Thank you for letting me comment.

When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought the photo was something abstract. I saluted you for turning a common thing liked a planet into a photo so complex. The angle is extraordinary. However, I agreed that the photo needs better sharpness.

I may have trouble giving this picture a write-up worthy of it. It is simply fabulous.

Though you have taken a picture of plant life, you have actually created an abstraction of quite intriguing complexity. I think that without the frond that is curved back on itself, the overall composition wouldn't have been half as powerful, as it adds a sense of curvature which complements the interplay of straight lines everywhere else.

There is also a beautiful level of interest and detail in the tonalities, which brings out the textures of the plant.

That said, what you have tried to accomplish here is not an easy shot to get perfectly right, and upon closer inspection of the higher resolution versions, this does become quite apparent. The first issue is camera shake. Even at Flickr's large, this is quite obvious. With a hand-held 1/6 second exposure, this is a serious risk. When I was using a point and shoot (and even with a DSLR if I can't use a tripod), I would always take half a dozen - or more - shots of exactly the same thing in the hope that one of them would give me a minimum of shake.

The second detail is another thing that is hard to control: the depth of field. Here, you really need the background grass to be more distinctly out of focus. If the camera cannot manage a larger aperture than you got with this shot (were you on full auto, or aperture priority? the latter would have given a bit more control), then you can always select and blur in post-processing.

Though I would definitely prefer this picture with the technical improvements, it does demonstrate a very good eye for detail. Keep it up.
