El Regreso
Painted in earlier this year in spring of 2008. A feeling of joy comes (even in an urban environment) when the bare trees take on a few leaves and the trees display a bright yellow-green that you see in spring. Add to that the joy of getting outside after a winter of being cooped up in a studio doing still lifes (it ain't that bad really) and it's amazing. I painted this just out my front door, literally. The scene is near the corner of Driggs and S. 2nd St. in Brooklyn, NY looking due west (down S. 2nd St.). The center of focus of the painting is the beautiful church, which is the beautiful Christian Pentecostal Church. The red awning next door to the church reads "El Regreso" (a substance abuse center.)
