John's Restaurant has been serving up classic Italian food in the East village since 1908.
When Joe "The Boss" Masseria had rival crimelord Umberto Valenti killed in 1922 in retaliation for an earlier attempt on Masseria's life, he set up the hit by first having dinner with Valenti here. Anarchist Carlo Tresca (a good friend of John's) also had his last meal here before being assassinated in 1943. It was said to be a favorite of Arturo Toscanini's. John Lennon and Peter Boyle were often spotted dining here.
