The Baha'i House of Worship, gleaming like a white beacon, is the North Shore's most striking building. There are seven major Bahai'i houses of worship in the world; this is the only major one in North America. The Baha'i faith, based on the teachings of the 19th-century Persian prophet Baha'u'llah, promotes unity among all people and religions.

Construction of the house which began in 1920, wasn't completed until 1953. Adhering to Baha'i requirements, there are nine sides to this building designed by French-Canadian architect Louis Bourgeois. An entrance door is on each side. Quotations from Baha'u'llah are carved into the stone, one above each entrance and each of the nine alcoves. Elaborate filigree-like carvings adorn the exterior. A Dramatic dome of quartz and white cement rises 135 feet above the central auditorium, which seats amost 2,000 people. The colorful, symmetrical gardens are lovely to stroll in.
