NYC - Morningside Heights: Tom's Restaurant

Columbia academics, local hospital workers and tourists who snap pictures by the famous neon sign prominently featured on Seinfeld flock to Tom's Restaurant (2880 Broadway). The clean, sunny interior looks nothing like Jerry and the gang's dingy haunt, but it showcases fun ephemera like "Seinfeld" cast autographs and press clips on how the diner inspired the musical ode by Suzanne Vega.

And did you know that the rest of the building housing Tom's has been a NASA research facility since the 1960's? NASA/GISS develops computer models of the Earth and some of the earliest global warming computer simulations were conducted in this building in the 1980's. The NASA director whose office is in this building was named one of the 100 most influential Americans by Time Magazine.
