Have you tried generating this map not with smaller chunks, but with larger? Say, 200 mile blocks?

      I haven't yet, but I ought to.

thanks Eric, that was my question. The network is huge!

I would try to remove some links, maybe putting different thresholds on the weights. I wonder if some new patterns would emerge... anyway, great job!

What do you get if you run it with a time cutoff ending before celebrities all joined twitters? i.e. only normal people, albeit weighted towards techies

I wish I knew... You can't really look into the past on Twitter -- you only have access to what happened while you were watching the streaming API.

This is really fantastic!! You have found a way to visually represent the movement of ideas. I want to know more! How did you get access to the data to begin with?

    16. Eric Fischer 14 months ago | reply

It's from the Twitter streaming API, dev.twitter.com/docs/streaming-api
