I was astounded by Bill Rankin's map of Chicago's racial and ethnic divides and wanted to see what other cities looked like mapped the same way. Am I to understand, Ricky, that white flight took place only in "flyover country?" Is that what you mean to say?
Ricky, I've lived in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, and Dallas. There's segregation everywhere; it's just a matter of small degrees of difference. Here's some reading for you:

I am shocked by the lack of diversity in downtown Detroit! Oh wait, is is called segregation when the area is predominantly black, "lack of diversity" when the area is predominantly white. I am shocked by the segregation!

I just came back from a 10 days research trip in Detroit and I'm really curious as how this map has updated. Have you tried the data of the census of 2010? I think it was released a few weeks ago.

The census release from a few weeks ago was only at the state level -- the more detailed information should be out in the next month, from what I have heard.

This is just an irresponsible remark and should be deleted.
As a native Detroiter and resident until 1991, I had black neighbors in ST Clair Shores after that where there was no animosity at all.
People will naturally desire to be among those who share their mores and traditions.
if you move into a neighborhood and are vastly different, you may not like it there, or your neighbors may choose to leave.
In MOST cases I have seen, folks mingle with no problems.
In Detroit, the crony government is the major issue to many who have left.
