For some reason when I watch this video I think of "Nothing On You" by B.O.B

    Like a heart beating.

How cool is it that you can still make out individual runs even with 30 days smooshed together!

    Really nice!

Thanks! The Treasure Island trips especially seem to have the heartbeat effect. I think the fact that you can distinguish individual runs across multiple days testifies to better schedule adherence than Muni is generally credited with -- it looks like if a run goes out at all, it generally goes out when it is supposed to.

    wow thats awesome

This is phenomenal -- per usual! It took me a minute to figure out exactly what was going on, Muni is much more consistent than bitter experience sometimes suggests and I wouldn't have expected the regularity of trips either. Extremely cool.

Hi Eric. Just wanted to let you know that we credited some of your pictures in a SPUR blog piece from July 27th. I am also looking into doing an expanded piece about this video, and was hoping you could answer a few questions about it. If you can, could you please send me a message at jsalinger@spur.org. Thanks.

Sure, I'll be happy to answer questions. I sent you mail.

I'm not sure why you feel weird about posting this on Flickr, but let me just say that I think it's totally awesome how you've demystified our Cabspotting time lapses on display at MoMA right now. Keep it coming, Eric. :)

Great visualization! Yes, the routes with a defined "heartbeat" are the routes with the highest on-time reliability. The 108 Treasure Island has the highest schedule adherence in the Muni system. However, the routes we are able to clearly see at 3AM are also a result of large headways due to cutbacks to Owl service... 60 minute headways in some cases. The time lapse runs too fast to make out any "runs" less than a 12 minute headway.

This is fantastic. I love your data experiments.

Edward Tufte would be proud of you!

    This is awesome!
(I assume you know this was highlighted in Transit Intelligence ...)

    Good job...

No, I didn't know about that. I don't even know what Transit Intelligence is. Where can I find it? Thanks for letting me know.
