The location in people's profiles, perhaps? If so, were people in NoVA/DC counted as "locals"?
I love visualizations like this. This is pretty kickass - only wish there was more info about the methodology. And what do the lines mean? Photos by the same photographer?

It is purely data from the pictures, not from the profiles. The explanation is in the set description, but a local for these purposes is anyone who took pictures within this city over the course of more than a month.
The lines are where the same person took two pictures near each other within 10 minutes of each other.

could you include prince george's county and points east of the city as much as you've skewed this to the west? this doesn't even include all of the district...

Yes, I'd also love to see a map of the northern environs of the metro area.

These are great. They really make the analogy to arteries and hearts of cities graphic. The zoo looks like a gland here. I'm going to take these maps with me when I travel to these cities from now on.

Hey Eric,
Is there any way I can get a print, or vector file, to make this into personal artwork for my home?
Thanks,
Robert

Really a great concept and a very creative application of GIS If you just moved here, now you know where NOT to go during the tourist season!

Eric,
I have to second Robert's comment. Is there anyway I can get a print? This is way cool. Maybe not just of this one but a few of them.

You can specifically spot both the 9:30 Club and the Source Theater... I can't help but wonder if a large portion of those are mine!

LOL one has to hope that a sufficient # of photos have been uploaded east of the city to make that worthwhile ;)
