Today I went to the U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition at Imperial Beach, about 15 minutes south of downtown. I was absolutely blown away with the talent and creativity of the contestants. They had only from 9:30 this morning until the end of the competition at 2:30 PM to sculpt their creations. It was unbelievable what these people could create in only 5 hours of time.
Lots of hard work, patience, detail, and thought went into all of these creations, only to all be washed away when high tide hit around 4:30 this afternoon.
From a photographer's perspective, I found this event to be one of the more enjoyable and challenging events that I've photographed in quite some time. The event was, by far, one of the most amazing displays of art I've ever seen.
