iShirt

save for use as an iPod "case"?

OK, this line should be a little closer to the laptop. Bad Vox for drawing with the mouse in too much of a hurry...

Then cut off excess fabric...

In the t-shirt laptop case shown in MAKE #06, on page 27, it looks like the laptop fits in long way round--but the way I made it, the dimensions work better this way....

I'm not so impressed with these directions. do you remove the computer before sewing? or do you just take a seam-ripper along with you when you take your laptop out and about? do you attach a shoulder strap so this "case" is actually useful. or is it just for dressing up the ol' iBook. or is it a sort of Snuggli that you actually WEAR? please advise.

I am, however, impressed by the ocarina virtuousity. I think we all deserve a vimeo of that, Ross.

Oh all right.

You just set your laptop there to mark a line about 1" out from each edge. Pin across that, sew, cut off excess, and turn inside out. Cute point: if it's a pocket T, you can stash your power brick in that. And yes, you DO save a sleeve for your iPod!

I'm going to make a few mods, though -- I'm going to line it with some fleece or felt for padding, a layer of woven fabric to reduce stretching, and reinforce with a couple of strips of canvas or webbing between the lining and the shirt, as anchors for a strap.

Then I'll either sew on a strap, or sew on D-rings for a clip-on strap.

Also, if the shirt's big enough (I'm using a womens medium baby-doll shirt with a 12" PowerBook), there's enough length that you can create a flap at the neck AND use the bottom opening as a pocket as well (since the tee doesn't have a pocket). Blessed Velcro.

Kerri, D-rings are a great idea. I wasn't originally thinking of this as a carrying case--just as a soft protector for when the laptop is jammed into a shoulderbag or backpack. I do like the idea of laying another layer of fabric or padding INSIDE the t-shirt before folding and sewing, if you need more structure.

Anyway, mod to taste--that's the whole idea!

I've made one! And then i cut out an apple logo then spray painted it with black paint in a square around it... let it dry and removed the logo getting a white apple on a black square! It looks very kl!
