October Song

October Song by Vol-au-Vent (NO INTERNET!!).
Clouds gather, treetops toss and sway;
But pour us wine, an old one!
That we may turn this dreary day
To golden, yes, to golden!

Autumn has come, but never fear,
Wait but a little while yet,
Spring will be here, the skies will clear,
And fields stand deep in violets.

The heavenly blue of fresh new days
Oh, friend, you must employ them
Before they pass away. Be brave!
Enjoy them; oh, enjoy them!

Theodor Storm - A Song in October

To me, the branches of those two trees are reaching to each other and my first choice of title was 'Reaching out a last time before winter'...

The ORIGINAL poem (or song) went like that:

Oktoberlied
Der Nebel steigt, es fällt das Laub;
Schenk ein den Wein, den holden!
Wir wollen uns den grauen Tag
Vergolden,
ja vergolden!
Und geht es draußen noch so toll,
Unchristlich oder christlich,
Ist doch die Welt, die schöne Welt,
So gänzlich unverwüstlich!
Und wimmert auch einmal das Herz -

Stoß an und laß es klingen!
Wir wissen's doch,
ein rechtes Herz
Ist gar nicht umzubringen.
Der Nebel steigt, es fällt das Laub;

Schenk ein den Wein,
den holden!
Wir wollen uns den grauen Tag
Vergolden,
ja vergolden!

Wohl ist es Herbst; doch warte nur,
Doch warte nur ein Weilchen!
Der Frühling kommt, der Himmel lacht,
Es steht die Welt in Veilchen.

Die blauen Tage brechen an,
Und ehe sie verfließen,
Wir wollen sie, mein wackrer Freund,
Genießen, ja genießen!

(Very good translation into English, I think - but NOT complete!)

thank you all for your kind comments. I think that now we'll approach winter quickly - temperatures have fallen and it's getting cold enough to get the winter teas out, those with the cinnamon in it - it's candle time again soon! :)

Hello Eda; my pleasure - We have to share the great pools, that's what they're here for.... :)

Lynn; see above!! Do you know German? If so, do you know and enjoy Erich Kästner? He was one of my dad's all-time favourites and I adore his sense of humour and the depth of his poetry.

Peggy; see above!! It's rather seldom to find a German poem to go with a photo because we're all (forced to) tuned into the English... - in the end, we want to be understood and responded to and sometimes, I feel a bit of sadness about the lack of all the other great languages like the French, the German, Italian (and of course the 1000s of languages I don't know like the music of Portuguese, the sing-song of Spanish) and many others!

Hello and welcome, 1sock... (great icon and funny name!) - Thank you for your FAVE and kind comment. Appreciate it very much.
