I really like the setup of this bike. So simple yet elegent. Is it actually touring geometry? The wooden guards are an awesome touch.

Beautiful, but...i who has custom builder with otherworldly skills make a department store bike? Now a mixte I could understand...and who locks up their $2000+ bike like this? Somebody with more money than sense, and like I said, that is tough to look at.

lecapopral: what makes you think this is a department store bike? The non-mixte frame design? I bet this frame will outlat many other diamondframe bikes. Its pretty obvious that the rider of this bike is fairly small and probably won't be doing any serious trail-riding or gear hauling (no luggage racks nor eyelets to mount them). Also, what is wrong with their locking technique? That seems to be a Kryptonite Evolution series lock, is there a weakness in that lock that I should be aware of? I've been using a Krypto Evolution lock for the last 8 years with bikes in the $1000-$2000 range and have had no problems.

Bikes are meant to be ridden: Vanilla bikes are certainly the epitome of art on two wheels but I would bet that Mr White would rather see his bikes being ridden and locked up than hidden away and brought out only on Sundays when the weather is just right. It is cool that such a nice bike is actually being ridden.

That being said, that bike would not last the day in NY with that locking technique.

I realize that NYC is real tough when it comes to bike thievery, but what is wrong with the locking technique shown here?

Nothing wrong with the technique at all (not that I am true expert), bikes in NY tend to get stripped down pretty quick especially anything with an allen key: threadless forks are easy targets, skewers, handlebars etc. So, your bike frame may still be there when you come out after a 20 minute visit to the grocery store but all the stuff on it is gone. That is why I dont leave out any bike I really like, other wise it may get stolen by the delivery guys of NY (prime thievery suspects in my opinion).
